Firmographic Data

Firmographic data describes the characteristics of a company, such as industry, revenue, employee count, location, and funding — used to qualify and segment B2B prospects.

Definition

Firmographics are to companies what demographics are to people. They're the descriptive attributes that define an organization and help sales and marketing teams determine whether a company fits their ideal customer profile (ICP).

Key firmographic data points include:

  • Industry & sector — SIC/NAICS codes, vertical market
  • Company size — employee count, revenue range
  • Location — headquarters, office locations, regions served
  • Funding & financials — funding stage, total raised, revenue growth
  • Technology stack — tools and platforms the company uses (technographics)
  • Ownership type — public, private, VC-backed, bootstrapped

Firmographic data is typically sourced through data enrichment providers who aggregate information from public filings, web scraping, social platforms, and proprietary datasets.

Why It Matters

Firmographic data is the foundation of account-based selling. Without it, you're guessing which companies to target. With it, you can build precise ICPs, automate lead qualification, and ensure reps spend time on accounts that actually match your product.
